And finally she had her kids' party. It was fun - we had it at a place called
Crackpots, a pottery studio. 25 kids were there, plus their parents, and we filled up the whole place. The kids each got to pick out a piece of pottery and then paint it themselves. They were really creative, had a great time with the paint, and everyone loved getting a hand-painted piece to keep afterwards. The most special thing to me was a birthday plate for Kaya - each child put their fingerprint on the plate, along with their name, so we have a very special keepsake to remember all of her guests by.

We served lunch foods from Costco at the party - this is one instance, when you're feeding 50 people, when Costco is actually a smart, economical choice! We had chicken salad with crackers and bread, club sandwiches, assorted fruit, corn chips, guacamole dip, chicken nuggets, Pirate's Booty, and drinks. Most of it got eaten, and I wished I'd bought even more nuggets because the kids went through them in 30 minutes flat.
She had
a "Princess and the Frog birthday cake" - it was appropriately girly and pretty. Tasted good, too. This came from our local grocery store,
King Soopers, for about $40.

She's thrilled to be five -- it was hard for her to watch her friends turn five and have to wait to catch up to them. So she was very, very happy to blow out the candles today!

The whole thing went very well, and I was glad to have chosen Crackpots as the party venue. As for the goody bags, part of making it work is handing them out to everyone toward the end of the party - oops. I guess about a third of them eventually went home with someone. Perhaps we can use the goodies next year!
And the presents... oh, Kaya's presents. She got SO MANY. Here's the list of what she received from her guests:
Pinkalicious sticker book, Leap Frog movie, wipe-off writing work, book of tattoos, Tinkerbell styling set, colored pencils, The Bamboo Cutter and the Moon Maiden, do-it-yourself scrapbook, Pixie Hollow pop-up book, Princess book, Polly Pocket set, slip'n'slide, lip gloss, more Polly Pockets, Noah's Ark jigsaw puzzle, Clever Castle clue-solving game, make-your-own storybook, glitter pencils, Rummikub game, dry-erase activity center, princess sticker book, The Very Fairy Princess, dress-up doll book, paint-your-own tea set, Tinkerbell cosmetic set, mermaid Barbie and slide, Littlest Pet Shop set, Biscuit Goes to School, Littlest Pet Shop triplets, Smatch memory game. Look at that huge pile! (This doesn't even count the many, many things she received from her family.) Do you think this child got enough presents or what?!?!

So Kaya's 5th birthday was a big success, everyone had a lot of fun, and now we'll have to figure out how to top this one next year! Just kidding. I hope. :)
