Some of us here at Essence occasionally use the term TOEIC Disease jokingly to refer to teachers whose
passion for TOEIC
crosses the line between
commitment and
obsession.
By coincidence, I was passing through the TOEIC test center in Takadanobaba just as Mr. Nakamura was
being wheeled into the building on a hospital
gurney. Although his passion for TOEIC is not
the cause of his
current state, surely it is a
symptom of TOEIC Disease to
attempt to take the test after such
a serious injury.
Still, I am glad I happened to have my camera with me that day to
get a few shots of Mr. Nakamura both before and after taking the May TOEIC. I am also
hopeful that the fact that his
physician accompanied him to the test center means that the doctors are
confident in his full
recovery.
Mr. Nakamura, by the way, has already made arrangements to take the next TOEIC at the end of June.
